Top 10 Areas For Uninsured Drivers

You will be aware that it is a legal requirement in the UK to make sure that your car is insured unless the vehicle is kept off the public road system and is declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). As a minimum, you must make sure that you have a minimum level of cover known as third party insurance.

Therefore, you may assume that everyone who should insure his or her car does so. Well, you will be wrong to make such an assumption as there are many owners of vehicles who, for whatever reason, decide to ignore the law and not bother to insure their vehicles. This could be for one or more of a number of reasons with one such reason being cost.

Car insurance premiums are, on average, at an all time high. As a result, this may encourage an increasing number of motorists to not insure their cars.

So, where in the UK are the majority of uninsured cars located? Well, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) has recently published a list of the top areas in the UK where uninsured drivers live. Below we mention those areas including postcode: –

1. Leeds LS1
2. Bristol BS1
3. Salford M3
4. Manchester M8
5. Birmingham B10
6. Birmingham B18
7. Birmingham B6
8. Stoke-on-Trent ST1
9. Manchester M12
10. Thurrock RM18

As you can see, there are more uninsured drivers in Leeds LS1 than anywhere else in the UK. It is also interesting to see that there are 3 postcodes in Birmingham that feature in the top 10.

Apparently, a hit and run driver or an uninsured driver collides with someone here in the UK every 20 minutes. We are sure that you will agree that is a very high figure and is most concerning.

If an uninsured driver is caught, he or she can have 6 points added to their driving license and get a fixed penalty notice of £300. Their car could be seized and sometimes crushed. In addition, they could go to court and be subject to an unlimited fine and be banned from driving for a period of time.

So, it really isn’t worth taking the risk of driving your car with no insurance cover for it.
