Bodily Injury Insurance Claims Double Involving Motorcyclists, Pedestrians and Cyclists

Motorists may find it interesting to read that, according to MORE TH>N, there has been a significant increase in the number of bodily injury claims being made on car insurance policies that involve motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians in the last few months.

Apparently, the number of such claims has doubled from 10% to 20% which we are sure you will agree is a very large increase. Bearing in mind that one of the factors that affects the cost of car insurance premiums is the amount paid out in claims, it will be interesting to see if any insurance companies decide to increase the cost of providing such cover in the coming weeks and months.

It is also interesting to read that it is estimated that around 1.3 million people in the UK in the pandemic have purchased a bike. One of the reasons why this has happened is possibly because some people prefer to travel to work on a bike rather than have to come into close contact with people on the likes of buses and trains.

As more and more people are returning to work and the roads are getting busier with an increasing number of cars being seen on roads this no doubt puts the likes of cyclists at greater risk of being involved in a road traffic accident. Motorists should therefore take as much care as possible on their journeys watching out for cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. For instance, car drivers should take a wide berth when overtaking a cyclist and reduce their speed when doing so to lower the possibility of colliding with a cyclist.
