When Are You Most Likely To Be In A Road Traffic Accident?

Some interesting research has been undertaken by Admiral, provider of many types of insurance including motor insurance, into when road traffic accidents take place here in the UK. We thought that we would share some of the data with you.

This research involved looking at a number of claims that the insurance provider had received and analyzing them.

So, which day of the week do you think that most road traffic accidents took place on here in the UK? Well, it is a Friday. On that day of the week, 17% of accidents took place. Why is this the busiest day for claims for road traffic accidents? Could it be that people are more relaxed because, for many, it is the last day of the working week and are some motorists thinking what they are going to be doing at the weekend and not concentrating on their driving?

It probably will not surprise you to read that it is the busiest rush hour period when most accidents take place in the day. Apparently, 43% of accidents take place at that time of day. Presumably, one of the reasons for this is that there are possibly more cars on the roads here in the UK at that time of day making the roads very busy with people often driving very close behind one another. It is the period between 5pm to 6pm when a larger percentage of accidents take place. In fact, 10% of accidents on roads take place in that short period.

The quietest time of the day for road traffic accidents to take place is between 1am and 2 am. That probably should not surprise motorists as there will no doubt be not so many cars on the roads in the early hours.

The quietest day of the week for road traffic accidents is a Sunday. On that day only 10% of road traffic accidents take place. Again, this should probably not surprise motorists as Sunday is possibly the day when there are fewer cars on our roads compared to during the week.

We trust that you have found the above information to be of interest. Do drive with care whenever you are behind the wheel of your motor vehicle no matter what day of the week it is and whatever time of the day it is.
