If you want to lend your car to someone for a short period of time then one option may be to consider car sharing insurance for the driver that is borrowing the car.

It is a type of car insurance policy that may be suitable for someone that owns a car and wants to lend it to someone for a short period of time or someone that wants to borrow a car for a short time. It provides fully comprehensive cover for the person driving the vehicle. In the event of the person driving the car, for instance, being involved in a road traffic accident or the car being stolen the vehicle would be covered but the owner of the car would not have there no claims bonus affected on their own motor insurance.

Cover can be arranged for as short a period as an hour and up to 30 days and can be renewed as frequently as is necessary.

Some examples of when this sort of insurance may be suitable could be if you needed to borrow your wife or husband’s car to make a one off journey perhaps to attend a meeting. You may be going on holiday with friends and you are all travelling in your car and you may want to share the driving. Your son or daughter may be coming home from university for a few days and you would like him or her to be able to borrow your car on occasions whilst they are at home. Your brother may be poorly and you want to help them out such as to do their shopping and they prefer that you use their car.

When looking into car sharing insurance to decide if it is suitable to meet your needs you may also wish to compare it with the likes of temporary car insurance, short term car insurance and adding another driver to your own car insurance as an additional driver.
